A major new initiative steers thousands of at-risk students across the country toward graduation – and CSX is on board.
In School & On Track: A National Challenge addresses the startling fact that another student drops out of school every 26 seconds. The program – recently announced by City Year – will deploy young adults to serve as tutors, role models and mentors in high poverty schools. The goal – to help students identified as "off track" get back on course to graduate from high school.
The In School & On Track program was launched at a two-day National Leadership Summit convened by City Year and co-sponsored by CSX and others to bring together educators, government officials, philanthropists, policymakers, business leaders and organizational stakeholders from across the country to discuss the role that national service and City Year can play in addressing the high school dropout crisis.
CSX serves as a strategic partner with City Year. CSX has committed $5.3 million over three years to support 13 City Year teams, making it the organization's largest corporate team sponsor. The company, as part of its commitment to safety and in its role as City Year's National Lead Safety partner, provides CPR and first aid training to City Year's staff and corps. CSX also provides a "Safety Tip of the Day" and a $1,000 scholarship to each corps member designated as the Safety Ambassador at a City Year site.
CSX's support for City Year provides opportunities in schools and neighborhoods across the country to help children succeed. It also helps build stronger communities by breaking down social barriers, developing young leaders and fostering active citizenship.
